What are Project-Based Vouchers?

Benefits of PBV:
  • Immediate Move-In: One of the primary benefits of opting for a PBV is the immediate availability of units. Unlike Tenant-Based Vouchers, which may have a significant wait time, PBV properties have units ready for occupancy.
  • Stability: Since the subsidy is attached to the unit, you might find more stability in housing, as long as you comply with the lease terms.
  • Community Services: Many PBV properties offer additional services such as childcare, job training, and educational programs, which can be a significant advantage for residents.
Longer Wait but Greater Flexibility: Tenant-Based Vouchers (TBV)
What are Tenant-Based Vouchers?

Tenant-Based Vouchers provide flexibility as the subsidy travels with you, the tenant. You can choose any housing that meets the program requirements, regardless of location.

Downsides of TBV:
  • Uncertain Wait Times: Currently, there is a considerable wait for Tenant-Based Vouchers. The uncertainty of the wait times can be a significant drawback if you are in immediate need of housing.
  • Search Responsibility: You are responsible for finding suitable housing, which may be challenging in competitive rental markets.
